The early years

Mum, Patricia Thorpe was born in Nottingham on 16.11.41. she was one of eight children. She never really talked about her childhood much. When she was 16 she worked as a machinist. Mum met dad walking home one night, Dad was walking his dog. They began courting and married 10 months later in July 1960. Sadly 6 months after they wed my mum's mother passed away suddenly on 27th feb 1961 she was 44yrs old. As a child I always remember Mum telling us 'You would have liked my Mum, she was lovely' and now I find myself saying just the same to my Grand-daughter. I came along in 1962, Mum named me after her youngest sister Vicky. We lived in St. Anns in an old terraced house. In 1964 Mark was born and in 1968 Marie came along. we had some happy times there. Dad was into Greyhound Racing and still is. Mum would often go racing with Dad. I remember one time when we had 3 greyhounds all living in the house and us kids had to sit on the floor! as the dogs would be on the sofa. We lived in a little terrace and everyone knew each other, I remember playing games in the terrace such as skipping and 'please mr fisherman may I cross the water'. My Uncle David lived in our terrace but he left to go to clifton. Think it was 1969 when we followed.
